The Alliance for Pharmacy Compounding is the voice for pharmacy compounding, representing compounding pharmacists and technicians in both 503A and 503B settings, as well as prescribers, educators, patients, and suppliers.<\/p>\n

Our passion for compounding is fueled by our members\u2019 passion for their patients and the medications they create. APC is focused on strategies to assure that millions of patients can continue to access those compounded medications.<\/p>\n

Our commitment \u2013 not only to our dues-paying members but also to their patients \u2014 is to lead, to influence, to speak, and to serve so that the practice of pharmacy compounding is not merely preserved, but is elevated as a key component of health care delivery for millions of patients across America.<\/p>\n

Why compounding?<\/h3>\n

Compounding means creating a customized medication, most often from raw ingredients, most often for an individual patient pursuant to a prescription. Pharmacists\u2019 ability to compound medications from pure ingredients is authorized in federal law and for good reasons: Manufactured drugs don\u2019t come in strengths and dosage forms that are right for everyone, and physicians need to be able to prescribe customized medications when, in their judgment, a manufactured drug is not the best course of therapy for a patient.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s why Congress specifically and intentionally exempted compounded medications<\/a> from FDA approval via Section 503A of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act.<\/p>\n

Compounding pharmacies adhere to high standards of quality and compliance. Every one of the ingredients that compounding pharmacies use must come from FDA-registered facilities and manufacturers. Compounding labs and the equipment in them are subject to exacting regulation and are inspected by state boards of pharmacy and by the FDA.<\/p>\n

In addition, APC members subscribe to the Pharmacy Compounders Code of Ethics<\/a>, comprised of ten tenets that guide their professional, clinical, and business practices.<\/p>\n

APC members play an vital role in the American healthcare system and in individual patients\u2019 lives, preparing essential personalized medications for a range of issues, including autism, oncology, dermatology, ophthalmology, pediatrics, women\u2019s health, and more.<\/p>\n
