{"id":30,"date":"2020-11-18T11:42:04","date_gmt":"2020-11-18T16:42:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/secure290.inmotionhosting.com\/~a4pcor5\/?page_id=30"},"modified":"2024-06-27T09:48:51","modified_gmt":"2024-06-27T13:48:51","slug":"advocacy","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/whizkid.com\/a4pc\/advocacy\/","title":{"rendered":"APC Advocacy"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"hideme alignnone size-full wp-image-118\" src=\"\/files\/lobbying.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\" \/><\/figure>\n<h2>Protecting pharmacy compounding \u2014 and the patients it serves<\/h2>\n<div class=\"resource\">\n<h3 style=\"background: var(--apcred);\"><a id=\"now\"><\/a>What you can do RIGHT NOW<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Invite your member of Congress to visit your pharmacy. <a href=\"https:\/\/whizkid.com\/a4pc\/files\/2021-04_APC-Guidance-Hosting-Pharmacy-Visits.pdf\"><strong>We can help prep you<\/strong><\/a>!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p>As the only pharmacy association whose advocacy focus is solely pharmacy compounding, APC is the leading voice at the federal level \u2014 and increasingly in states, too \u2014 on a range of issues impacting pharmacy compounders and the patients served by compounded preparations.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/whatwestandfor\"><strong>Here\u2019s a general statement about what we stand for.<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>From our <a href=\"\/federal\">lobbying on Capitol Hill<\/a> to assure that legislation elevates and preserves pure ingredient compounding, to our advocacy before regulatory agencies like the Food &amp; Drug Administration; and from our work with state boards of pharmacy to our counsel and collaboration with standards-setting bodies like the United States Pharmacopeia (USP), APC is active and assertive in representing pharmacy compounding.<\/p>\n<p>We also lead coalitions of sister pharmacy-related groups and work hand-in-hand with partners like <strong>National Community Pharmacists Association<\/strong> and the <strong>American Pharmacists Association<\/strong> on a range of important issues that impact pharmacy compounding.<\/p>\n<p><strong>And we get stuff done.<\/strong> Last year alone, our advocacy successes included:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p>We\u2019re working with FDA to assure continued clear understanding of compliance standards and enforcement on GFI 256.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><strong>We\u2019re developing federal legislation that would:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pharmacytimes.com\/view\/opinion-the-fda-is-in-a-hole-with-mou-on-compounding-medications-it-should-stop-digging\">Eliminate the MOU<\/a> and replace it with reporting by pharmacies that ship more than 50 percent of their production out of state<\/li>\n<li>Establish an <a href=\"https:\/\/whizkid.com\/a4pc\/2022-12\/leaders-talk-adverse-events-reporting-with-fda\/\">adverse events reporting framework<\/a> for 503A pharmacies<\/li>\n<li>Implement the \u201curgent-use compounding\u201d provisions of <a class=\"url\" href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/117th-congress\/house-bill\/3662?s=1&amp;r=55\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">HR 3662<\/a> from the previous Congress.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><strong>We\u2019re developing<\/strong> a \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/whizkid.com\/a4pc\/2022-05\/usp-800-work-group-aims-to-assist-bops\/\">decision points document<\/a>\u201d to assist state boards of pharmacy in implementing and enforcing USP &lt;800&gt; and &lt;797&gt;.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><strong>We\u2019re <em>still<\/em> working to save compounded hormones<\/strong>\u2014therapies that benefit millions of Americans \u2013 in the wake of implicit threats to restrict them. Contribute to our campaign at <a href=\"https:\/\/compounding.com\/\">compounding.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><strong>Via our <a href=\"https:\/\/members.whizkid.com\/a4pc\/donate\/legal.html\">Legal Action Fund<\/a>, we filed two amicus briefs last year<\/strong> in court cases, one defending <a href=\"https:\/\/whizkid.com\/a4pc\/2022-04\/apc-to-submit-amicus-brief-to-preserve-california-patients-access-to-glutathione-and-methylcobalamin\/\">compounders\u2019 right to compound methylcobalamin<\/a> and another addressing <a href=\"https:\/\/whizkid.com\/a4pc\/2022-05\/apc-amicus-brief-addresses-ambiguity-in-fda-insanitary-conditions-guidance\/\">ambiguity in FDA\u2019s insanitary conditions guidance<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Pharmacy compounding continues to be threatened by ill-conceived regulation, making APC\u2019s role even more important.
